About the Author
Growing up in western Wisconsin, Brian D Garrity spent much of it living on the Mississippi River. After moving to the Twin Cities to attend the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, he became entrenched in the local underground art and music scene, documenting many of the bands, playing in a few of his own. An editorial and commercial photographer during the nineties and beyond, Brian shot for Spin, Rolling Stone, and Interview Magazine. He created iconic covers for Alternative Press of celebrities including Radiohead, Rancid, and Marilyn Manson. In 2005, Brian self-published a novella, ‘Ready-Made Dreams’, and Onyx Neon Press included his Science Fiction short ‘Godless’ in their 2010 Sci-Fi anthology, ‘Cifiscape Vol. I’. ‘Vol. II, to be released in March 2012, will include his follow-up short ‘Bullseye Inc’. ‘Still Waters Run Deep’ is his first full-length novel. He currently resides in Minneapolis, in a continuous state of astonishment.

Nice escape that I didn't want to end.

Set on Upper Mississippi River in 1976. Garrity's detailed description immerses you into Dart's world. It captures the emotions, feelings and character of the entire region. I felt like I was there, in the back seat of Marlon's Cuda. It brought back my own memories of sneaking off to my first Party. Being fearful of the Bully at school and experiencing my first concert. If you're like me, and survived the 70s as a Teenager or enjoy Richard Linklater's "Dazed & Confused" movie. The book is a nice escape that I didn't want to end. I recently learned that Garrity crafted his visionary skills as a Photographer for Rolling Stone, SPIN, and Interview Magazines, which explains why he can craft scenes so well in the story.

The adventures of a River Rat

A great story about growing up on the Mississippi River in the 1970's. The main character, Dart, is always caught up in the middle of something . . . something good or something bad. But Dart finds his solace and independence when escaping in his small boat. Garrity's picturesque descriptions of the river valley make you want to trade-in city life for the calm of something more simple - or at least venture out on the Mississippi River to take in a sunset!

A glimpse of home, 30 years ago.

This book transports you to a more simple time, and embodies you in many young men growing up and facing challenges of life. Although the book is set in the 70's, the challenges that these teens face are timeless, and every bit as potent as we face every day.
This is a must read for someone who is looking for great writing. Brian has a gift for introducing poetic nuances to his descriptive nature, tying in philosophical ideals to what the future could hold to a group of River Rat teens in the 1970's.
Another reason why I enjoyed reading this book personally is because of the Mississippi river valley landmarks that are familiar to me. I.e., the Pickle factory, Twin bluffs, ect.
