Review
Remy Diederich has done a masterful job of weaving theological and psychological concepts together in a way that makes sense. His concepts ... are easily grasped... I recommend this material to anyone desiring to know how to walk in freedom and truth. Julianne S. Zuehlke, MS. RN, CS, Co-author with Neil Anderson of Christ-Centered Therapy.
As a Biblical Counselor, I found the "Healing the Hurts of your Past" to be an indispensable reference when it comes to counseling individuals that are struggling with shame. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is a pastor, counselor, and leader. Phil Martinez, Director of Biblical Counseling, Harvest Community Church
From a reader: Your book arrived yesterday and I spent some time skimming through it this morning. FABULOUS!!! I normally get bored with books of that nature as they are too academic for me. That is not the case with your book. Your personal stories are tremendous!!!! Thanks for being willing to share yourself with us.
From the Author
I have worked with people over fifteen years in treatment, counseling and church settings to overcome the pain of their shame. It's exciting to see what happens in a person when they finally discover their value apart from their looks or performance. People appreciate my no-nonsense approach that is easily understood in layman's terms. No psycho-babble. No hyper spiritual cliches. The book is not only content rich but I offer many stories and analogies to help the principles make sense. I'm confident that you will be greatly helped by this book and welcome follow-up email questions.

A Must Read...
By R. Wagner
I would highly recommend this book.
You may have tragic, abusive circumstances in your life that have caused shame. Other people may initially think, like myself, that there haven't been any extraordinary circumstances that can be identified as causes of shame. However, upon reading this book, you'll discover that we all have shame in one form or another, that inhibits us from realizing our true potential and prevents us from having a real relationship with...and surrendering to...God.
If you're expecting to read this book and be immediately healed upon completion, you will be disappointed. No book can accomplish that task.
However, as the author points out, this book plants a seed. As I incorporated the thoughts and ideas from this book into my life, I began to notice small changes. After some time, which would be different for everyone, I noticed significant differences in my relationship with God and how I felt about myself as a person.
The author, Remy Diederich, is the pastor at my church. Each week, I go to services excited to hear what this man has to say. He finds a way to take 2,000 year old passages and make them relevant. Each week he reaches directly into your heart and makes you feel he wrote his sermon specifically tailored to you.
This book is like Remy's sermons. It speaks to your heart and to the core of your relationship with God.

Very solid writing, very good look towards healing from past hurts. A very good read.
By Marina
This book is touted as a "guide to overcoming the pain of shame" but it's really an interactive workbook that could be useful as a small group study, an extra "oomph" for someone working a 12 step recovery program (hopefully Christ centered, like Celebrate Recovery) or as a personal step towards dealing with the pain of the shame in one's past. At the end of each chapter, there are questions that should be answered, probably in a journal or notebook that the reader could go back through and realize "Ah-ha! moments that could help one to move forward in the quest for freedom from past hurts.
I like the simple language-- no confusing psychological terms to have to wade through with a medical dictionary, and I like the fact that the author offers up experiences of hurts that shamed him in his own life. There are several movie references in this book, so if you're a movie fan, it should be easy to draw parallels to points he's trying to get across. I'm not a big fan of living my life through people of fiction, but I guess it serves to help the greater good since more people relate to life on film now-a-days instead of "real" life.
My favorite chapter in the whole book is Chapter 2 "Defining Shame". I especially love the delineation between shame and guilt. That's something I will use for myself and in discussions with others about this topic, because it hits the truth right on target. I read through this book but I plan to go back through it and answer each and every question to delve into my own personal healing at a slower pace and to really have the opportunity to pray and meditate to hear God's voice about my answers.
I also like the Chapter on "Next Steps", where the reader is given a few practical points to do in order to garner a more healthy attitude about life as they step out to heal their past hurts, and the Appendix II: Bible Verses for Life Change is good to see as a solid way to close the book.
I enjoyed this read very much, and I will be completing the questions throughout the chapters beginning tomorrow, to see what there is to see in my life. Very solid writing, very good look towards healing from past hurts. A very good read.

Some helpful insight
By River Rat
The author states pretty early on that it would be helpful to write things down at certain points. And even tells what those points in the book are. Of course I did NOT do that. But now I find that I want to go back and re-read the book and do just that. Hard to explain, but subcontiously parts of this book brought some personal issues out, and in a good way. If you want to do some helpful self-reflecting, I'd recommend this book.
