This book is about individual empowerment. You don't need an expensive personal trainer or fancy machines, just dedication, basic equipment, and the solid scientifically based information in this book. The book tackles such common fitness myths as: -Weight training to get big, cardio to get lean? -Are there cutting exercises? Bulking exercises? Do high reps burn more fat? -Do women need different exercises than men? Which supplement fights cellulite? -Are there any any supplements worth buying? -What is the best exercise for the abs? Hint: It is not the crunch This is the book I wish I’d had when I began weight training twenty years ago. It would have saved me so much time and frustration.

A great collection of common misconceptions
By Amazon Customer
Bad health and fitness advice is everywhere these days. You can't trust the magazines because they're just there to sell you products. You can't trust the trainers because they don't actually have to know much to get their license. You can't trust the Internet forums because they're full of broscience and general idiocy. It's quite hard to find the actual scientific truths amongst all the exaggerated crap, but Maik does a very good job of it in this book.
Whether you're new to training or experienced, you'll enjoy this book. I've been lifting for nearly a decade and consider myself fairly educated in the field and I clarified quite a few things. I also recommend Bigger Leaner Stronger: The Simple Science of Building the Ultimate Male Body (The Lean Muscle Series)--one of the better overall health and fitness books that I've read in a while.

Just what I needed.
By Travis W.
I have been working out for the last couple of years regularly, watching what I eat, etc. I have made great strides in losing weight and getting into shape. I consider myself a bit of a health and fitness nut, so I do a lot of reading and reaching out to people / trainers for different workout routines and advice, and often hear conflicting information about what works best. It's so great to come across this book and finally have everything people hear put out in the open and critiqued in an accurate and detailed manner. I feel like already I am pushing through this "rut" I seemed to have been stuck in for the last few months. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking to continue getting into shape or to work through the plateaus, as well as to dispell a lot of common misperceptions that are out there in this industry. Maik, thank you for writing this book!

Maik Wiedenbach confronts Misconceptions about Fitness
By Grady Harp
Author Maik Wiedenbach is a fitness coach, physique architect, nutritionist, two-time World Cup and Olympic team swimmer for his native Germany, has degrees in history and philosophy, has been a Wall Street stockbroker and has founded his own company - Adler Training - THE source for training in Manhattan. His motto is `Anyone can be in shape!' and that is what this fine book is all about.
Wiedenbach's book is about individual empowerment. In his words, we don't need an expensive personal trainer or fancy machine, just dedication, basic equipment, and the solid scientifically based information he offers in this book.
He attacks myths such as Weight training to get big, Cardio to get lean; cutting exercises, bulking exercises; importance of number of reps; which supplements fight cellulite; are there any supplements worth buying?; the best exercise for the abs is not the crunch!
Maik's well written and well designed book is a must for frustrated exercise advocates. The book is POD at Createspace so it likely will be available here on Amazon.com soon. It is a winner. Grady Harp, May 12
