An excellent resource for all printers and all print processes. Organization of press workspaces, changeover tools, operating logs, and even sweeping are all too often set aside for a later date. Running an efficient pressroom with quick changeover times reduce costs, improve throughput, and leverage existing resources. "Here's a book you should have. I know, I know, everybody says that but this is different. This book lays out what avalanches are and how they happen, and it will save your life. Now notice I didn't say this is a book you should have on your bookshelf. This one should be in the top pocket of your pack. Simply put,"Snow Sense" is a pocket guide to safe snow travel, whether you're hiking, backpacking, skiing, snowshoeing, or mountaineering in high risk areas.
Avalanches don't simply explode out of nowhere. The ones that kill people are usually started by the victims. This book will teach you that such catastrophes are avoidable. You can learn to recognize and evaluate avalanche hazards. You can learn to "read" the snowpack, "read" the mountains, and save your skin. "Snow Sense" is a hands-on, explicit, clear-thinking, hard-hitting field guide that teaches you how. By studying the book's "bulls-eye" clues to snowpack stability, hardness tests, shear block tests, weather analysis, simple physics, and hazard checklists, you'll come away with all you need to know about avalanches and how to avoid being caught by one.

As a longtime Alaskan, I feel fortunate to have had both Doug and Jill in many courses. The book Snow sense is now the required reading material for all Nat'l Ski Patrol avalanche courses, and rightly so. I read it at the begining of every season. True avalanche professionals. If you ever have the chance, come to Alaska and take one of their courses.

Not Just a How-To Book

If you're just interested in whether I liked this book or not, I'll get that out of the way first. I enjoyed this book and I expect to read it again in the near future.
I should mention, before discussing the contents, that this book is well-constructed. I like to read on airplanes and took this book on several short trips. It not only fits well into carryon luggage, but also withstands the rigors of travel and hotels extremely well.
This is not just a how-to type of book. Readers will not be overwhelmed by images of slim, svelte individuals in contortionist stances or situations. Rather, this book discusses the mental process of meditation. Any physical postures or exercises mentioned seem to be designed to facilitate the meditation process, not merely to lose weight or
fit in with the burgeoning yoga crowd.
I don't think there is any one good manner of addressing the mental processes, especially those of meditation. It is just too complicated an area. This author takes the approach of discussing some of the short-term goals of the incremental steps of his method, Shin-shin-toitsu-do, rather than ephemeral discussions of long-term, years-down-the-line goals. He
repeats important points, usually from different angles and perspectives. This approach can be heavy-handed and burdensome, if not done correctly.
Mr. Davey keeps his approach light. Just when it seems he is going to spoil things, he is off on another tangent that brings the reader back to the same goal.
I couldn't read this book in one sitting, although it is not a ponderous tome. I felt the need to break it into many short, educational readings. Sometimes just a snippet, sometimes reading longer. The material was presented in an easy manner, free of self-importance, yet not disrespectful. I know I probably didn't pick up all the important material
discussed, but I put it down with the feeling that I had found something that was important. I will read this book again, soon.

'Japanese Yoga' is a surprising book that affects your daily life from day one that you practice it.
The fact that i keep on practicing it everyday is a solid proof that the exercises are helpful in many ways.
The author H.E. DAVEY reveals in a clear and instructive way the teachings of NAKAMURA TEMPU SENSEI.
Both the psychological and spiritual background of his method are written in a down-to-earth way and without acting as a 'guru'.
Each of the principles has a PRACTICAL pendant as an exercise or test to make you really feel what is meant. In this way these principles are not mere assumptions, but become true and real, here and now.
For example : the principle that the mind moves and controls the body : the author includes several tests and exercises to make you find out for yourself what is meant.
The practice of Japanese Yoga has a lot to offer : stretching exercises, improvement of posture and breathing, centered movement, healing skills, meditation etc. These are not too difficult for most people, if practiced in the right frame of mind. And they are beneficial indeed.
The author suggests that there could follow a second volume of this book. i would be very pleased to read and learn more about Japanese Yoga.
H.E. Davey also wrote "Living the Japanese Arts and Ways", 45 paths to meditation and beauty. This volume
further explores the Japanese Ways (do) and is equally interesting and revealing. It looks at "body-and-mind-
unification" through the traditional crafts and arts of Japan.

This is a very good book and I recommend it.

This is a very good book and I recommend it. I’ve been studying the forms of meditation and other methods outlined in this book for many years in Japan.

It was exciting for me to read the first authentic introduction to Nakamura Tempu Sensei and his methods in English. I was really interested in how the principles and methods I knew in Japanese were explained in English. And while I was reading the book, I felt as if I was enjoying some familiar foods in an overseas country thousands of miles away from my hometown. I also noticed that the author tried to make every effort to help readers understand the essence of Shin-shin-toitsu-do.

Best book for children on embryo donation so far

This is both my daughter's and our favorite on embryo donation. It is simple, clear, without too many details about the parents' background and with a focus on the child. ("Will and Hope Have a Baby" goes into too much detail for us about high school and college years. My child doesn't care how long Will and Hope knew each other or what they did. She cares about the child in the story. And, because my and my partner's history is nothing like Will and Hope's, I can't say, "Hey, that's like Daddy and me!") The illustrations are colorful and compelling, for my child at least. The emphasis on Mile's birthday, his party and this really cool bicycle makes the story fun (we make Miles a girl.) The fact that the bicycle comes from a child far away who came from the same embryo batch is a detail to the story of birthdays, fun, family and a cool present, which makes this complex idea easy to introduce. Completely accessible to my pre-schooler as she can place herself easily into Miles' position. She knows having a birthday, preparing for a party, getting a bike, and having parents she has fun with. This is the only book that mentions the relationship between embryo siblings - "Does that mean he's my brother?" is an EXCELLENT question and introduces the special relationship these children have with each other. In the book, the father says, "No, more like a cousin." (We use the term "brother-cousin" for our embryo sibling.) It's paperback, thin, a little flimsy, but then this is a low-production, specialty book. We're buying it for our own "brother-cousin" and for the school library.

Great for open embryo adoptions!

We did a closed embryo adoption through NEDC. This book is more geared toward open adoptions. We have already read it to our daughter and will continue with future children.

It may bring up some questions about "why didn't my genetic parents want contact? Miles's genetic parents did." So I'm hopeful that someone comes out with a embryo adoption book on closed adoptions before we get to that question.

situation-appropriate, but disappointed in the physical quality

This book is very situation-appropriate for most ED/EA families. It talks about a bio brother in California and the child's bio parents, that the child of EA might meet them some day, and how the parents came to use EA to build a family.

That said, I was shocked that I just spent $17 for a paperback book that would normally cost $6 (the images even had faint lines running through them, as if they came off a printer running out of ink). If it weren't for the serious lack of literature on this topic, I definitely wouldn't have chosen this book. I plan on writing on myself for our family, with our story, and hardcover self-publishing it using a web service.

Just starting off

I've been grabbing for any and all info in regards to the world of belly dancing. Though I do not sew (so far).. Going through this book was highly informative. It tells you how to pick the costume for your body type (something everyone should learn how to do!), as well as instructs on how to go about putting a costume together. I might donate this book to my sister, as she sews... maybe I can hire her to make a costume or two!
For anyone who does make their own costumes, or sews anything at all - I would definitely recommend this book.

... Yes, it does clearly say "spiral bound" in the description- but it doesn't say that the book starts to fall apart the first time you turn the pages!
The content is pretty good. Maybe I've just read too much on the subject- but I didn't learn anything I didn't already know. The belt patterns in the back are nice, though.
If you've created belly dance costumes for the stage, this book is probably not going to give you any ideas you haven't already come up with yourself or seen on other dancers.

Since eggs do many different things in recipes, there is not just standard method for replacing eggs that will work in every recipe. I've made thousands of test batches to find the easiest way to replace eggs for almost every common recipe that contains eggs. The recipes in The Egg-Free Cookbook are easy to make and produce results that look and taste just standard recipes where eggs are used. My kids had to approve every one of them! Multiple Food Allergy Guide: Here is a breakdown of how many recipes in the cookbook include other common allergens: Corn: 94% are free of corn or can be made corn-free by when arrowroot powder is used instead of cornstarch; Nuts: 96% are nut-free when the nuts listed as optional are omitted; Dairy: 70% are dairy-free or can be made dairy-free by substituting out just butter &/or milk; Wheat & Gluten: 54% of the recipes do not contain wheat or gluten (including pies & quiche if a gluten-free crust is used or the crust is eliminated). Suggestions for making additional substitutions for these allergens are included in the instructions section of the book, but all possible substitutions have not been tested.

French Silk Pie is Back at Our House!!

As a mom of a child with an egg allergy, I was happy to find some recipes for things I've been missing. We have enjoyed the Carrot Cake, French Toast, and Bread Bear. Our favorite was the French Silk Pie!! When I was a child, I always requested a French Silk Pie from a restaurant instead of a birthday cake. It was wonderful to be able to share this memory and tasty desert with my son! I can't wait to try more recpies from this useful cookbook!

A great cookbook for those who are unable to eat eggs.

I ordered this for my sister, as her granddaughter is allergic to eggs. My sister mentioned she wanted to be able to cook for her, and with her without eggs but was finding if difficult to find recipes. She was happy with the recipes, there were many old family favorites.. such as brownies and snicker doodles.. not to mention other non dessert recipes. The recipes were all simple, not too many ingredients and no special items. This was a good purchase.

I really needed a way to cook egg-free for one member of my family when they come home for a visit. Of course I want to make the same recipe for everyone so no-one is "left out". This easy to use cookbook has so many of my old favorites (but now without needing the eggs.) Now I can make favorites for the whole gang. Love this book!

Robert and Metta Silliman were missionaries stationed in Dumaguete on the Philippine Island of Negros from 1924-1966. Their mission thrived from its very beginning due to the support of their major patron, Grace A. Dow, and other members of the First Presbyterian Church (and later the Bertha E. R. Strosacker Memorial Presbyterian Church) in Midland, Michigan. They taught at Silliman University (founded in 1901 with funds from a distant relative), interacted with the nearby mountain people, and helped nurture their students at the college. If this wasn’t enough to challenge them, they lived a nomadic life in the jungles of Negros to evade the Japanese invaders during World War II. They were eventually rescued by an American submarine and later returned to their mission on Negros after the Japanese surrender. This is the fascinating story of people working together across the globe to make a difference in the lives of others.

Exciting and Fulfilling

This book is an inspirational and true story about real people. From the 1920s through the 1960s, American missionaries Robert and Metta Silliman were teachers at Silliman Institute (later Silliman University) on the Philippine island of Negros. The book includes details of their harrowing experience avoiding capture by Japanese invaders, working with the guerillas, and escaping in an American submarine during WWII. After the war they returned for another 20 years of service, Silliman University by then one of the pre-eminent universities in Asia. The other principal strand in the story is the personal relationship that developed between the Sillimans and Grace A. Dow (wife of the founder of The Dow Chemical Company) and her Midland, Michigan church in the support of the Sillimans' work. The book provides a powerful example of what can be accomplished when individuals and institutions cooperate with and support those "in the field." A meticulous researcher, the author is also a graceful storyteller. Her well-documented book contains photographs, maps, and extensive notes, all of which enhance the story and bring the people to life. There is also a very useful index.

Great Guide, Great Guidance!

This book is not only resourceful and helpful, accessible and friendly, but it is also very empowering and encouraging. I am new to the childbirth profession and no one close to me works in the profession. This book helped answer a lot of questions I had. It made me feel the way I feel when someone is giving you the lay out or orientation to a career. My favorite part is that Donyale Abe puts down doable steps and very practical information. The book is full of ideas! Very doable ideas. I will have this book for a long time and reference it whenever I feel stuck or alone in my career.

Finally, a map for those who want to use their calling as their profession!

I wish this book had been available when I had the desire and ambition to enter the childbirth profession and only lacked the guidance. I eventually made it, but my way was full of road blocks, U-turns and dead ends. This book would have helped me tremendously. I highly recommend Called to the Childbirth Profession for anyone who wants an effective road map into the field. Explore over 60 professions (some of which I had never considered) and use the easy resource list to gain additional information to pursue the profession. So glad someone took the time to make life easier for so many by providing navigation through the birth field. Purchase this great resource and begin to "follow your dreams."

Clark Highsmith lives in Midlothian, Texas along with his wife and son. He enjoys hiking, reading, wargaming, teaching Sunday School and spending time with his family. This is Clark's second book.

Easy informative read!

This book is amazing. The set up is easy to follow and consistent throughout the chapters. As a history major the book contains all the right information. As a parent it states the facts and keeps you interested with short, easy to follow stories about individuals. These stories are what helps history come alive for kids. I enjoyed this book and will recommend it to others.

Makes history come alive for the whole family

"Famous Men of the Second World War" tells the compelling stories of 31 men who played pivotal roles in the war. For the subjects we were already familiar with, we learned more and gained insight into their personal stories. And best of all, we became familiar with many new historical figures. The book managed quite adeptly to take a vast topic like World War II and make it a more intimate experience, told from the perspective of each of these subjects. Our daughter is 10 years old and is an avid reader and history buff, especially since her father is a high school history teacher. She was fully engaged by the book and especially enjoyed the inclusion of women's contributions to the war effort. We read the book together over a period of time and it's an easy book to cover a segment at a time. The review questions at the end of each chapter make the book an interactive experience for the whole family. This book would make great supplemental material for classroom instruction and I plan to offer it to my daughter's sixth-grade teacher next year for use during their study of World War II. I only wish my daughter could have looked at this book with her grandfather, who was a World War II veteran and passed away last year at the age of 93 -- he was so proud of his military service and he would have loved reminiscing and sharing this book with his granddaughter!

Informative and entertaining

I would highly recommend this book! My daughter is 13 and loves history, we were able to read it together, and the questions at the end of each chapter made sure we didn't miss anything! This would be an asset to any family, or classroom. Each chapter is very detailed, personal, and well written. My grandfather was in WW2 and we were able to compare his stories and accounts with the times, places, and people in this book. WW2 came alive.
