All the information you need on Carribean Medical Schools
By KMMD2B
After considering attending a foreign medical school, I felt that I needed to know more than what people were posting on student doctor network and on valueMD. It seems that most people who post on these websites are biased and make carribean medical schools to be an entire network of conartist and that any physician coming out of the carribean is licensed to kill. I had to find some other way to find out more about what was really going on down there. What better way to find out then from someone who has not only gone to school there but is now a licensed practicing physician in the United States? Dr. Raza literally goes through the nuts and bolts of the entire process, his experience and what to expect from Carribean medical schools. After reading the book, not only were all my questions answered but I felt much more confident in attending a carribean medical school. I will be starting at SGU this coming January and I can't thank Dr. Raza enough for preparing me for whats to come in the years ahead. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!

Fantastic way to learn about the whole idea of Caribbean Medical Schools
By Marcin
I have read this book in it's previous version, so I think many things are updated since then. Dr. Raza try's to condense the whole knowledge about going to Caribbean Medical School, with issues that can go with it and opportunities/threads. In my opinion it is done really well. Huge advantage is that author himself went to CMS. Now he is a doctor in USA, so he knows "a bit" about issues, that potencial aplicants must face during their medical path.
The book is organized in a clear, logical way covering main issues and problems: from the whole idea to study in Caribbean, to financing methods.
What I really liked about this book, are the author's personal opinions, about various things like certain schools or books to study from. On the other hand there are some drawbacks. As you can imagine, it is very hard to write a book that covers totally everything about a certain topic. I have to say that Dr. Raza did put a lot of efford to make it complete, but htere is always a way to write a little bit more about certain things. Moreover, although there is information for non-US/Canadian students, I would love to see a little bit more for that particular group of readers.
Nevertheless, I had pleasant time reading this guide - it is extremely helpful for someone who don't really know much about Caribbean Med Schools - thanks to this guide you can have all the knowledge you need in one book. Huge advantage of the guide, is that it can be helpful not only for beginners - organisation of this book is so clear, that you can just jump into the interesting topic, and get the important information from there, without having to read the whole chapter. I bet it is important for people, who are seriously thining about going to Caribbean Med School and are doing research for a longer period of time.
Bottom line: Author with self experience on the topic, clear organization of the book, condensed knowledge about issues from the beginning idea to final financing and interesting personal opinions makes this guide definitely worth-reading. For beginners it is a must read, for people who studied the topic for a long time - it can be helpful but it wont be as much informative.

Very informational book, really tells you as it is.
By medwannaB
This is a really great book for anyone wanting to know more about the Caribbean medical schools. As a Canadian, I know that it is very competitive to get into Canadian schools, so it is great knowing that there are alternatives out there. Before reading the book, I had so many questions about the experience of going to the schools in the Caribbean, and not knowing anyone who went to them, I felt like it was a bit of a mirage. This book answered all those questions for me, helped me to develop more that I could ask the different schools to choose between them, and really elucidated the experience from a student's point of view. The book discusses everything from applications to the basic science years to clinical clearkship and beyond. The author even throws in little anecdotes which make me feel as though I'm being advised about these schools from a friend. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is toying with the thought of going to the Caribbean. This book makes the caribbean school experience seem that it isn't as bad as people from the mainland to seem to think it is. A definite viable alternative!
