Misleading

This is more a photo album with comments. It is only 72 pages, and it does say this in the description, but there are so many pages with no writing and only 1 photo on the whole page. I don't feel it was worth 24.99. The product details say " In this book, you will find Popcorn's handwritten recipe for making moonshine". There a photos of about 6 pages of his handwritten notes scattered across two pages of the book. It does not list the recipe just a few pictures of very few of his notes. If you want a photo album of Popcorn then buy this book. If you want a long read about Popcorn's life then buy something else. Give Pam (Popcorn's wife) some of the proceeds then I will feel better about the price. I gave it 2 stars just because what little story line there was in the book was interesting, but way too short.

Dispointment

Don't be lured by the printed promise of this book containing Popcorn's hand-written recipe. You'll be disappointed. The photographs are worth buying the book for; but, as for the content, you may be disappointed. Popcorn's banjo playing is criticized, he's referred to as a criminal and we are reminded that he fathered illegitimate children - all fair points to raise, but not what I expected when I read the reviews, etc. It's as if the author wants to say, "Yeah, I spent time with an outlaw and enjoyed it, but please don't tie me to any of his shenanigans. And, he wasn't the hero some have made him out to be." This book left me more confused about Popcorn than anything else it did. Buy it for the photographs for sure, but be warned about the contents: it's not what it's made out to be. RIP Popcorn. I guess there's always going to be different versions of who you were and there will always be controversy.

Well-done, and Worthy

Tom Jester and Don Dudenbostel present an uncompromising portrait of an iconoclastic backwoods moonshiner, warts, carbuncles and all. Jester avoids the too-easy southern-fried cornpone approach in telling us how Popcorn mastered his family's trade and marketed his product with prescient genius. Popcorn is portrayed as a crude, violent, profane craftsman -- no hero, but fascinating. The classic black-and-white photography suits the subject. Well-done, and worthy.
