About the Author
Quiz-Acrostics were invented more than 30 years ago by puzzlemaster Sheila Haak, and they originally appeared in a number of Chicago-area publications. Sheila, with degrees from Northwestern University and University of Chicago, is a mathematics educator, textbook writer, and textbook editor.

Fairly challenging

These "Quiz-Acrostics" are an interesting twist on the acrostic puzzle: rather than a literary quote, the text is a trivia question, with the answer in the initial letters of the clue words. I'm not sure if this is an improvement over the traditional form, but the puzzles are fun to do and fairly challenging. They are easier than the Cox and Rathvon (New York Times) ones, and don't have the same witty thematic zing, but tougher than the Michael Ashley ones. I look forward to volume 2.
My main complaint about the book is physical: the stiff glued binding and horizontal format of the pages makes it somewhat awkward to handle when solving.

You have to give deliberately incorrect answers?

I love acrostics. I do one-per-day. I thought these would be good and fun. The subtitle tells us they are challenging, but what makes these more challenging than others is that apparently you must give deliberately wrong answers to the clues.
I started with puzzle 47. "1954 Grace Kelly film: The Country ______." The Country Girl, right? Right. Except for this puzzle, you have to enter the incorrect title The Country Wife. That is a Wycherley play, not a Grace Kelly film. I was tempted to throw the book away then and there, but I continued.
Then I hit a puzzle (number 11) where the tiny number and letter in the box did not correspond with the number and letter of the clue. I realize there is no way to get anyone to proofread that, but I have worked entire books where there were no errors like this. Same thing with puzzle 22.
Since I don't work them in sequence, I tried the final one very early on. It doesn't involve a famous anything. It's a vanity puzzle about the author's grandson. Not fair.
I finally threw it away because I don't appreciate having to give deliberately wrong answers and to correct the author's clue numbers and letters myself.
Stick to more professional collections of acrostics and leave this one alone.

These are lots of fun to do - different from the usual acrostics because of the trivia twist. I agree with the previous reviewer - the binding is not suitable for a puzzle book. Spiral bound or perforated pages would be better. I am looking forward to her next one.
