In Jesus The Jew No One Knows D. C. Smith reintroduces history’s most misunderstood Messiah. He presents the Torah-observant teacher, accompanied by classical artwork and concise explanations, to show what actually happened to him both before and after Christianity took root in Roman-occupied Judea. Using a carefully drawn out series of historical segments, Smith peels back 2,000 years of revisionist distortions to uncover the many myths and made-up stories about a local rabbi we now think of as “Jesus,” but whose real name was Joshua. Smith informs us about Christ’s birthplace, his mother, father, brothers and Nazarene neighbors, as he describes a peasant existence exalted and overdramatized after-the-fact. He shares the circumstances of a teenage boy growing up in Lower Galilee, noting the race, tribe and lineage he would have belonged to, while explaining the political meaning behind his parables and the baffling behavior of his closest disciples. The author also considers narcissistic emperors and kings who reigned during those ancient days and recounts the new prophet’s religious calling, along with aristocratic “enemies” and so-called “friends” who claimed to have witnessed what was going on. In the third and final part of the story Smith exposes his hideouts, his last supper, his betrayer, the Roman judge who sentenced him, and the eventual crucifixion, all of which were followed by church doctrines regarding his resurrection and second coming. Replete with biblical timelines and a comprehensive glossary, Jesus the Jew No One Knows is a visual journey into the day-to-day life of Jesus Christ. It chronicles how the truth about him was either covered up or set aside and how later theological traditions were passed down over the centuries by Greek-speaking ghost writers with suspect agendas. From start to finish, this remarkable book separates fact from fantasy in reconstructing the historical Jesus and the turbulent times in which he lived. It is a must read for inquisitive people of all faiths and for secular humanists, too!

About the Author
D.C. Smith is a former college professor with an intense love of history. Over the decades he has taught many different subjects, including philosophy, literature, rhetoric, religious history, labor union history (and law), plus creative and professional writing. In the early 1960s he attended Mt. San Antonio College, East Los Angeles College, CSULA, CSUF, and the University of Arizona. Not long thereafter he and his wife served in the Peace Corps before settling down to raise their family in the suburbs of Los Angeles. Since then he continued his academic pursuits at UCLA and Cornell University while working for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. This job introduced him to the world of rank-and-file politics, mostly as a community organizer speaking and writing on behalf of pro-union causes. He also served the union in other ways, including appointments as IBEW press secretary, managing editor of a quarterly magazine and lead instructor teaching labor organizations how to implement improvements in membership, education and training. During much of this time Smith taught classes at the following educational institutions: the University of El Salvador; Yuba College; Glendale College; Mt. San Antonio College; and California Polytechnic University. In the 1990s he partnered with show-business entrepreneurs to create SKS Publications. Together they researched, wrote and published a series of historical trivia for Barnes and Noble called BIRTHDAY GIFTBOOKS. Individual works include Layers of Lies, History's Most Famous (and infamous) Humans, “Shakespeare’s Superman,” “Rebutting the Gospel Hoax,” and “ Brotherhood Betrayed.” More recently, he visited Qumran and several other important archeological sites with the distinguished author and educator, James Tabor. He then teamed up with the eminent historian, Robert Eisenman, to conduct tours of the Holy Land in cooperation with officials of the Israeli Antiquities Authority. Under the leadership of Dr. DeWayne Coxon they have all worked to restore the ancient city of Biblical Tamar located in the Negev Desert near the Dead Sea. It is an active dig going down ten layers from the Roman Period to the days of King Solomon. Professor Smith is also a member of the Biblical Archeology Society and the Society of Biblical Literature. He sits on the Board of the Institute of Anthropological Studies at Tamar Park and currently serves as West Coast Representative for Blossoming Rose.

A Complete Waste
By S. E. Moore
One of the disadvantages of buying books online is that you have to rely on the reviews of others. Based upon the glowing reviews given to this book, I thought I might learn something new. When I saw Robert Eisenman's endorsement, a, red flag went up. It went downhill from there.
This book is nothing but a trite, mindless diatribe against the New Testament and the Christian faith. Much of it parrots the tired old mantras spewed out by sensationalists whose agenda is to drive a wedge between Jesus and the Christian faith. The book is nothing but the whims of a man who has an axe to grind with Christianity. They are based upon his own prejudices and are not backed up by any reasonable explanation.
On the back cover one's attention is drawn to a number of "Did You Knows?" to include:
some of jesus' disciples were murderers; Judas did not betray him; odds are he had a normal sex life; he may even have been married with children; in the end, his royal family and clan were killed off by Christians!
I'm sure some gullible people will be reeled in by these statements but those who have a mind of their own will be disappointed when they find out the author provides no reasonable explanation for these statements.
Here are some gems which the author pulled out of his Box of Cracker Jack with my own added comments:
--Jesus' brothers, all of whom joined the gang of twelve. (I ASSUME HE MEANS THE TWELVE DISCIPLES)
--the sect was known as the Ebionim (I THINK HE IS CONFUSING THE NAZARENES WITH THE SECOND CENTURY EBIONITES)
--John the Baptist which means John the Essene (HOW DO WE KNOW THAT JOHN WAS AN ESSENE?)
--Paul, otherwise known as "the liar" or "the spouter"...Paul may have been a Greek speaking Herodian. (THIS WAS PARROTED DIRECTLY FROM EISENMAN WHICH EXPLAINS WHY HE ENDORSED THE BOOK)
--Mary Magdalene may have bore him a child. (PARROTED FROM THE PRIORY OF SION, A PROVEN HOAX)
--editing of the gospels continued for centuries accounting for tens ov thousands of variables. (DID THE AUTHOR PULL THESE NUMBERS OUT OF A HAT? LET'S NOT LET FACTS GET IN THE WAY OF AN AGENDA. A HIGH DEGEREE OF UNANIMITY CONCERNING THE GREATER PART OF THE NEW TESTAMENT WAS ATTAINED BY THE END OF THE THIRD CENTURY OVER A WIDE GEOGRAPHICAL AREA AMONG CULTURALLY AND ETHNICALLY DIVERSE COMMUNITES FROM ROME TO MESOPOTAMIA...SEE REINVENTING JESUS BY KOMOSZEWSKI, SAWYER, AND WALLACE)
--before Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John created their fictional accounts, it was Paul who adapted to the cultish practices of the gentiles...Paul was already predisposed to gentile cults and mystery religions. (WHICH GENTILE CULT DID PAUL ADAPT TO?)
--vilification of Judas Iscariot was the result of the necesity of vilifying not only the majority of "bad Jews" but the early Nazarenes. (WHEN WAS JUDAS ISCARIOT EVER IDENTIFIED WITH THE NAZARENES?)
--with very few exceptions, Rome remained tolerant of the new faith. (NERO AND DOMITIAN WERE HUGE EXCEPTIONS)
--there has never been a Jerusalem Church and no such thing as Jewish Christianity. These institutions were invented to transform Jesus into something more deified, cultish, and pagan ie Greco Roman.
--the faith was hijacked and taken over by Europeans. (HOW DOES THE AUTHOR EXPLAIN THE COPTIC CHURCH IN EGYPT, THE ETHIOPIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH, THE ASSYRIAN CHURCH OF THE EAST ie Nestorian, OR THE SAINT THOMAS CHRISTIANS OF INDIA? ISN'T IT AMAZING THAT ALL OF THESE NON EUROPEAN CHRISTIANS READ THE SAME NEW TESTAMENT AND ADHERE TO THE SAME CORE DOCTRINES AS EUROPEAN CHRISTIANS? DID EUROPEAN MISSIONARIES TRAVEL TO MESOPOTAMIA OR PERSIA?)
--like the virgin birth, resurrection stories are pure fabrications, the product of creative and superstitious men...Jesus Christ arose not from the grave but out of Jewish and Greco Roman mythology...He reeks of fabrication.
--today scholars know more about the Bible than the men who wrote it.
--the gospels were followed by theological ramblings of Romanized apostles. (PETER AND PAUL WERE SO ROMANIZED THAT THE ROMANS HAD TO EXECUTE THEM. JAMES, JUDE, AND THE AUTHOR OF REVELATION WERE ROMANIZED?)
--the author of Revelation was a bitter, somewhat demented old man.
If that isn't enough to turn your stomach, the photograph of a mass grave of holocaust victims on page 106 is captioned by Luke 19:27. This verse is in the context of a parable and is not a commandment to kill anyone.
I had to wonder, how did this get published? Then I realized that the author probably published it himself. The man has no shame.

Historical distillation of the Jesus events
By Bill's Views
I appreciated the easy format of this book, even as it dealt with confusing and controversial religious issues. It is composed of concise one page summaries focusing on historical facts relating to Jesus such as: His Birthday; His Brothers; Disciples; Teachings; Women; Trials; and His Divinity. The facing art pages add a warm visual touch.
D.C. Smith uses the sharp knife of history to remove confusing layers of myths, dogma and outright deception. The author's focus is on the known facts and cultural factors that both shaped, and ultimately skewed, the historical views of the Jew once known as Yeshua. How did this admittedly "Jewish messenger" become "The Christian Message"?
If you are remotely curious about what actually transpired before, during, and after the brief existance of Jesus, Smith's book is a good beginning. The thoughtful content should stimulate readers to seek additional materials, pursue details and search for a firmer grasp of what actually drove this illiterate Galilean peasant - a Jew who preached repentance specifically to other Jews, with a view towards overthrowing the taxing and idolatrous Roman conquerors who profaned the Jerusalem Temple. How was this religious rebel transformed into the Roman/Greek version of a God?
Many questions will be answered through the author's serious distillation of history. I can only wish that a book such as this had been used as a text in the many Sunday School classes I attended.

Insightful and Thought-Provoking

JESUS: The Jew No One Knows
by D.C. Smith
Published by the Jesus Journals
Softcover ISBN 13: 978-0615516332, $18.00
JESUS: The Jew No One Knows by D.C. Smith was an interesting read in many ways, but it was also shocking at a few points. Truthfully, most of the shocking chapters, at least for me, dealt with the subject of Mary's character. For example, I knew of the mistranslation of the Hebrew word almah, which means young girl, into virgin, so that was no surprise, but what was surprising was that there was more than one possible male candidate as the father of the man known as Jesus. Also shocking was the fact that the most likely candidate was a Roman soldier, probably a local conscript from Syria, and that Mary quite possibly had more than one husband.
The information in JESUS: The Jew No One Knows dealt with the Jewish identity of Yehoshua, better known as Jesus. It deals with the alleged fact the message of Yehoshua was to the Jews and the Jews alone. It deals with his followers and the facts of his religion - that he was a Torah observant Jew, who brought a Messianic message that the deliverance of God was near. This message was not unusual; there had been Jews who were Messianic both before and after Yehoshua. The Jews were undergoing great persecution and encouraging their continued, or renewed, faithfulness in God's promise was a keystone of the message of all of these Messianic hopefuls. According to Smith, Yehoshua would have been appalled by the very idea that he was God's equal or that a new religion was brought forth supposedly in his name. He would have been shocked to find his name Hellenized and his appearance made more aesthetically pleasing to coming generations of gentiles.
My only complaint with JESUS: The Jew No One Knows is that all the references are given at the end and are not referenced at the point in the document where they occur so one can easily go, "Oh, this fact here, came from such and such a work between pages 417 and 425." This lack of footnote, endnote or parenthetical reference is troublesome. It makes it difficult to cross-reference the facts easily or to check what others have to say about the source of previously mentioned facts, because you don't know which facts came from what work.
Overall, I found D.C. Smith's work to be highly illuminating. I have always accepted the man better known as Jesus as a Jewish prophet, but not God, so for me there was little for me to get hung up on or stumble over, but for a Christian, or a potential Christian seeking to know who this man known as Jesus really was and what he was really like, the information could have been better presented.
Overall, I would still recommend JESUS: The Jew No One Knows but not nearly as highly as I would have recommended it had it been better annotated. in fact this is the only thing that keeps me from giving it a five-star review.
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest opinion and frank review.
