The discovery of a body of a second young girl buried only six months in a shallow grave may provide a clue to a possible kidnapper. But can Nathanial and Dugal piece together evidence in time to save a third kidnapped victim whose presence in the area is also completely unknown?

About the Author
Douglas Ewan Cameron is a retired professor of Mathematics from The University of Akron, Akron Ohio. He grew up in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, attended Miami University (Oxford Ohio) and The University of Akron and received his Ph.D. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Blacksburg, Virginia). Upon retirement, he and his wife Nancy spend their summers on the shore of Hubbard Lake in the part of Michigan’s lower peninsula known as “Up North” and winters in Copley, Ohio. Douglas loves to fish and spends many summer days out on the lake fishing for walleye and smallmouth bass. Retirement has also afforded him and his wife time to travel and they have visited all seven continents. When not traveling or fishing he has been able to return to his writing, something that he was not able to do while working. The stories he writes are those that have occurred to him while either fishing or traveling.

Solid Writing By A Solid Writer

In The Body In The Perch Pond, Douglas Ewan Cameron demonstrates the kind of minute attention to detail that many mystery/thriller writers either gloos over of miss entirely.
Everyone wants to believe that there is a CSI-like cadre of cops wheverever they go, solving mysteries in an hour--give or take, with commercials--and looking good while doing it. They usually share repartee that can't be written and quip their way to a solution so genius only they could come up with it.
The truth is far grimmer and sweatier. There's usually some guy making a little more than the minimum needed to survive, up to his elbows in gook and sweating through every detail as if each one could break his current case wide-open. If nothing else, The Body In The Perch Pond thoroughly demonstrates why good cops should be paid more to do the kind of back-breaking work they do, day in and day out.

A Good Read

I found this book just what I wanted at the time..... long enough to develop the characters and the mystery but short enough to finish in a day ... my timetable. If you like character development and descriptive material this will be a good book. It is based on local historical facts and draws from some nationwide news item. The writer put together an interesting fiction around a local and national news item and brought the conclusion home to his characters. I found it a good read and about long enough for a good round trip airplane ride.

Good t read

I liked the local flavor this book has. The author seemed to write from experience and it showed. This is a story, without going into spoilers, that takes place, at least the crimes, over a period of ten years. It is creepy in the right spots and the action moves along pretty well. A few typos, but I am used to that in very inexpensive kindle books. None of them were so bad that they distracted from my reading pleasure. I bought the kindle version of this, but it appears to be only available in paperback now. I would like to read the authors other book, but it also is only in paperback as of this writing. I pretty much stick with my kindle these days. One small quibble. I found this book while looking for hardboiled mysteries. This was listed under that category and it is not a hardboiled mystery in my opinion, but I do not blame the author for that. I am sure that amazon categorizes the books. But that is a small quibble and does nothing to detract from a good mystery. I will watch for more from the author.
