The Ruins of Evermore: The TimeLight Awakenings Part One, by David J. Saccheri

Edition contains Part One ~ Noble

The journey begins with a dream that is not a dream...

In Part One of this epic adventure, the story unfolds in the provincial town of Noble, where twelve-year-old Heather Nighborne is considered different, strange indeed, seeing auras and befriending the mysterious Aria. Yet, when the time comes for the extraordinary Bristol House to awaken Heather to her true identity and arduous destiny, a grisly incident on the house grounds complicates the girl’s rite of passage: her introduction to the magical Realm of Evermore, the land of Maidens.

The Ruins of Evermore, The TimeLight Awakenings is the first in a series of novels that will take the heroine from age twelve into adulthood and from small town Earth to the exotic planets of Evermore. Over the course of this intricately woven and epic adventure, two vivid and intertwined worlds take shape, highlighted by humor and magic, and shaded with danger and tragedy.

~~~~~Reader’s Comments:
"It was so gripping, tension-filled, unexpected...Also, the ending couldn't have been better...I feel rather sad though, that my sojourn in Noble and Evermore is over for the time being...it makes me want to go out and get the next book!"
"Not predictable at all. All the characters are very real, very real."
"Sure do love the house, every child’s fantasy."
"I think Heather and Molly are believable characters and compliment each other. Molly’s admiration of Heather is evident, and Heather’s appreciation and gratitude for Molly’s acceptance of her also comes over."
"...creepy...I am assuming that it is Heather and Molly, and wondering how the heck they are going to get out of it…"
"Loved the costumes, how do you think of this stuff?"
"I am in the chapter where Heather and Molly go to find (censored for spoiler’s sake) and all that neat stuff. Shannon, our daughter, has read the whole book—while I was at work."
"I'm 2/3 of the way through it. Frankly, it's not my kind of book, but I want to see how it comes out!! I've never read this type of literature before."
"I need more. I was up until 1:30 with nothing to interrupt me. So much action, who could go to sleep?"
"...I was taken to another plane...swept away with the beauty of your imagery, and the fearlessness of your imagination!"
"We should have a time with all readers to get together and talk about the book, the clues along the way, the rooms in the house..."
"Such an awesome heroine...Oh, I just LOVE Heather...with all her teenage lack of confidence. She is so nice and good and the world needs more like her. Not just in Evermore, but here on earth too."
"...And NERVE-WRACKING!! Will I survive this?? I can feel my blood pressure go up as I read!"
(From a fourteen year old reader): "You had me hooked from the start, but now your book is like a magnet; I just can't put it down. In fact, I dare say that this is by far the best book I've read since Inkheart!"
" Very exciting, very rich, very suspenseful...although I'm looking forward very much to the next chapters, I am also feeling a little bittersweet about this book ending."
"So I sat down and read like 100 pages without even thinking about it today. So much death! So much destruction! And for some reason that scene with Mistraya and Bayliss was the most brilliant! Such a creepy child…with an agenda of her own."
"...created a whole world and it's wonderful and magical and scary and delightful...I hope this story will be shared with many, many others. It is so very worthy of that."
"It’s an excellent read!"
Every scene is a painting
By S. Molin
What's the visual equivalent of 'lyrical'? The author is an
accomplished painter and his paintings have this (whatever it's
called). In this book he brings this quality to the written word,
challenging the reader to relate to his book for the imagery. Every
scene is a painting.
I gave up trying to classify this book. There is fantasy, certainly;
but also suspense, murder, character and action. Sometimes I felt I
was reading an epic poem, albeit unmetered. Mostly, though, it's the
imagery that carries you forward. That said, nothing else lets you
down: pacing, plot, characters, dialog and setting all carry their own
weight. The relationships between the characters, and between
characters and setting, are delightful to watch unfold. In particular,
the characters both major and supporting are well-developed and
compelling; several could support novels telling their own stories.
Production quality is high (I read the hardcover): quality paper and
print and an excellent dust jacket.
A word of warning: though the main characters are children, and
fantasy looms large, the books explores some situations that can be a
bit ... brutal for some readers. These don't seem central to the
story, though, and don't make up a large part of the book; so even if
this troubles you don't let this stop you from appreciating the rest
of this work.
The book is clearly intended as the first in a series. It promises to be epic.
Left me a bit dissatisfied... *SPOILERS*
By Twishy
I read this book over the course of a few days. Longer than I normally take but I stopped in the middle to read a couple other books before finishing this one. The book is well written and I'm sure if I can get over the bad taste this left in my mouth, the other books will most likely be really fantastic. Perhaps I'm being picky but the ending of this left me so dissatisfied that I'm not sure if I'll be able to even read the others.
There's a horrible murder that takes place towards the beginning of this book. The main character is almost killed at the same time. I kept reading hoping that I'd get some insight into who did it and and why. Also what are these dreams that the main character keeps having, who is her grandmother really, who are the maidens, what's this whole destiny thing about? You'll get no answers. It just ends. No explanations, no insight, complete cliffhanger. When you leave off the police seem no closer to figuring out what happened to the little boy who was killed. It ends with the grandmother deciding she's going to tell her granddaughter everything and with the granddaughter and her best friend wandering off into some other world for a parade. That's it. The end. All that building up and no satisfactory ending to the book.
I wanted to like this. I really did. I just hate cliffhangers. The house was fantastic. It was such an interesting and fun idea but being left with no resolution at all really grated on me.
