In THE LAST GOOD GIRL by Clary Ingram, we meet Karla Johnson, who is a nice innocent senior in high school. She gets good grades, doesn't give her parents any trouble and hasn't shown any interest in boys as of yet. However, recently she does become interested in dating but realizes she doesn't have time for the childish games boys play or their raging hormones. There is one guy she has her eyes set on, Terrell Lewis, who she has known since middle school and has always had a crush on him, but he is forbidden fruit, as he has been her bestfriend's boyfriend for the past four years.
Terrell is born and raised in the hood and isn't a stranger to the law as he has had his fair share of run-ins with them, even so much as being locked up a few times. All in all, Terrell is a victim of circumstance; he is being raised by his grandmother while his father is away in the military and his mother is deceased. He is smart, handsome, an awesome football star and a true southern gentleman, when he is one on one with Karla. Trouble does continue to follow him and the only one who is consistently in his corner is Karla.
Karla and Terrell know they can't be together, but the attraction they feel for one another is undeniable. Underneath the tough boy exterior is a sweet and charming young man, and Karla sees that when no one else does. She also is the only one Terrell can count on in his times of need. Can these two fight the attraction and remain just friends? Or will they cross the line and hurt the one they love?
THE LAST GOOD GIRL is an excellent coming of age story that will hit home with alot ofl pre-teen and teen girls. The characters were well-developed and believable. The emotions and feelings that Karla dealt with most young girls deal with at some time or another. The way she handled different situations is also very inspiring to young girls. This book was a very quick read I highly recommend.
