Great! A guide written especially for women!

Why a guide for women? Having been a world traveler as a young woman, I can attest to the need for such a book: because women traveling alone are especially vulnerable. But not only that--we love to shop! Our Paleo ancestors, after all, were the "gatherers"--and this book includes a comprehensive SHOPPING GUIDE for all the major areas of Thailand!
The book starts out with many safety warnings, including 7 ways to protect your belongings, resources for safety, tips to remain safe and use common sense on the road, a warning against scams, a warning about violence in the far south of Thailand, common crimes in Thailand, and more (much of which of course men can also benefit from). There is even a Q & A with a Thai doctor on women's health issues to be aware of, such as birth control and the lack of abortions.
We also are forewarned to bring our own bras and tampons, which are hard to find there (at least for bras, in the right size, as Thai women are tiny).
We are informed of many historical and cultural things, such as public holidays, and festivals, and are warned about the sex industry. The author warns women not to venture into sex shows, as you may end up part of the show! She herself was pulled up onto the stage in one such event.
I love how there are funny stories in boxes--such as how the author was attacked by a monkey!
The book includes info on spas, transport, borders, each section of Thailand, sights to see, tourist attractions, do's and don'ts, accomodation, hill tribes, things to know, and more.
Best of all this is such a BEAUTIFUL book and interesting to read even if you never go to Thailand! Most travel books use thin paper, but this one is slick magazine paper filled with gorgeous photos. In the back are Thai phrases to use at restaurant (including the request for a vegan meal), and even Thai food recipes with stunning photos! There is also a volunteer section, as well as a language section with common survival phrases to use, including the critical, "Can you discount this?" There are beautiful maps, and fun info boxes with things such as the common full moon parties.
Maybe I'll even go to Thailand, after reading this!

Great Guide for Girls who Love to Travel

Of all the guides I've read on travel this guide has to be the most helpful for women traveling with friends or alone. There is lots of information on how to stay safe and where not to go. Many things may not become apparent until you are already traveling and the authors of this book have done plenty of research. Like you might want to bring a combination lock for lockers or you might want to get a "pacsafe" for your backpack so no on can steal items from you as you are walking or traveling on public transportation.
How can you avoid being sentence to a Thai prison? This is really important stuff!
Why are bras difficult to find in Thailand?
How should you dress if you go to a temple?
Where should you bring money or you can't even use the toilets!
These questions are answered and more. There is also a little bit of a history lesson. But most of the book is about where to stay and what to do. Hostels, guest houses and other accommodations are featured. There is also information on where to go elephant riding, where to pet tigers, which markets to shop at, where to go on nature walks, what water sports are available, where to go rock climbing and where to go diving.
This guide has lots of unique little facts. Like you shouldn't buy a Buddah statue for yourself because it can be bad luck. Also there are lots of scams you don't want to involve yourself in and warning are given.
One of the reasons you will want this guide before going to Thailand is because the authors have found some hidden gems that are not known by many people. You will definitely want to know where the pristine beaches are!
This guide is just super helpful because it is written by women who love to travel and have your best interests at heart. I also found this book would be interesting to armchair travelers. It is just really fun to learn about other countries.
