About the Author
About the Authors Jim Rader After working as an editor, teacher, and counselor, Jim Rader spent the last 18 years of his career as an aide to now-U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), first as a city official in Burlington, Vermont, and then as a Congressional caseworker. Now, in retirement, Jim has been able to develop the Quip-Find™ word puzzles that he invented some 40 years ago. He lives on a small Vermont farm with his wife, Meg Pond. They have eight grandchildren. Jan Schultz Jan Schultz has worked as a software developer and manager. He came to Vermont as part of a pioneering project called PROMIS at the University of Vermont Medical School and was instrumental in developing an electronic medical record in the early 1970s using touch-screens. More recently, he has helped Jim develop Quip-Find™ puzzles using the Ruby programming language which he loves.

Addicting

I love NY Times crosswords, Sudoku, KenKen, cryptograms and any puzzles dealing with words. I do them all but, Quip-Find puzzles are the Rolls Royce of the puzzle world. Quip-Find has it all. There is a quote to discover by finding the words to it in the cube. The back and forth process between finding the words and getting the correct letters in the cryptogram below the cube is the challenge. I was awed by the process at first, but you soon get the swing of it and as it comes together, there is such great satisfaction in finding the solution. It is a combination of puzzles that you do at once and that is intriguing. The fun is filling in the words and then coming up with the quip. I was a little worried at first about visualizing the adjacent letters on the cube, but once you see how that works, it comes easily with the very next one. Sometimes you can see a word on the cube and see where it would fit on the cryptogram or you can guess what a word in the cryptogram might be and the find it on the cube. You will never be bored with these puzzles. I have made it a habit to only do a couple at a time, as I don't want to run out of them before the next set are available. That takes discipline as they are so very ADDICTING! Do yourself a favor and try this new puzzle form. The authors deserve many kudos for bringing Quip-Find to us puzzle-loving people.

Fascinating puzzle book ... with a unique twist

As an avid puzzle-solver (or, at least, "attempter") in my spare time - of which I seem to have very little these days, I highly recommend Never Play Leapfrog with a Unicorn for those individuals who wish to expand their cognitive brain power, as well as their knowledge base. The book provides a stimulating and challenging vehicle to hone one's skills within both the intuitive and rational aspects of intellectual function. One can very well enhance one's powers of logical deduction, memory and anticipation while simultaneously enjoying oneself. What more can an educated and motivated person bent upon self-improvement ask?
Jim Rader has incorporated his expertise at word play, his knowledge and his wisdom - all derived from years of productive work - into this fascinating puzzle book, one with a unique twist that will delight all who accept the challenge. I urge the general public to consider this book for themselves and as a gift for others they care about. I am certain that no one will be disappointed.

Quip trip

Unlike other reviewers, I am not a word-puzzle person, but when someone gave me my first Quip-Find, I found it surprisingly fun. Perhaps it's the "dash of the third dimension", as the book description has it, that I like: the challenge and reward of chasing down words in clumps as proverbs and quotations and seeing how fast you can guess the latter or if you know them already. I am going on a long train ride soon and plan to pass the time with the book, to wit: turn a slow trip into a q_ _ p trip.
