This breakout novel is a shockingly real and seductive narrative, told with bravado flourishes, portentous foreshadowing, sardonic humor and eloquent turns of phrase. Like The Great Santini, it is the story of a dysfunctional man, his tumultuous relationship with his shrewish and manipulative wife who holds his children hostage to his good behavior and the journey he embarks on to find a peaceful co existence with himself through friendship and love. Scott Noto takes a painstaking effort to yank--ever so slightly--on all the sub plot threads of which there are many, skillful not to tear or ripple the fabric of his story. Every detail of his characters are sketched out with naturalness rarely read. Well this won't happen with The Lion's Den. This rivoting powerhouse of a story and Golden Fox winner packs a wallop and is the gem of the literary season. The Lions' Den is a vivid portrayal of greed and betrayal at high velocity, feuled by arrogance and excess but finds closure thru love and acceptance. There are many moving parts to this story but each one is well lubricated, and the talent of the writing makes it swing effortlessly. Its scene progression plays like a movie in front of your eyes waiting for the director to yell CUT. The Wall Street duel between Mario and Bart as they wrestle for the future of the country on live television is masterfully done thru concurrent real time cutaways and resonates throughout the story, building to a crescendo and culminating with a heart pounding and emotionally charged climax in Washington. I finished it just 2 days during a business trip to China when I should have been preparing my presentation because it is so engrossing and enthralling and is just plain CRAZY!!. GREAT BOOK! DON'T PASS IT UP! Highly recommended to anyone who digs Wall Street. Yet its not about Wall Street. The scene where Mario drags his drug addicted son up the stairs of the King Theater in Harlem was heart pounding and reads with the visual acuity of a motion picture. I almost dropped my kindle. This is truly one of the best books I've read in the last 5 years. Part of me couldn't wait to finish it, to find out what happens, and part of me never wanted it to end. Scott Noto delivers a sensational debut performance because of his brilliant characterizations and a truly meaningful story. The character of Mario Monelli is a dichotomy of whats inside all of us. Scott Noto is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of SUNY and holds degrees in Finance and English with a Masters in American Literature. A 25-year veteran of Wall Street combat, he served over a decade in the trenches at Lehman Brothers, then on the front lines as Vice President at Salomon Smith Barney. During his career, he's written many news articles for its financial publications and served as guest speaker and periodic host of radio FCN, broadcast nationally. Recognized for his hard hitting and gritty literary style, he has been the recipient of numerous collegiate writing awards. His critically acclaimed novel The Lions' Den is his national debut. As a former investment banker, I had a passing acquaintance with some of the personalities at Lehman Brothers this story is rumored to be loosely based on. Once I started The Lions' Den, I couldn't put it down. It literally cost me sleep,both because I stayed up late reading and because I stayed up later cringing at how plausible this scenario is.This story is told in an absorbing narrative. The characters are introduced and fleshed out with layers of extraordinary detail, no-doubt the result of insightful life experience and exhaustive research. Liar's Poker which was non-fiction was a nice fairy tale next to The Lions' Den which is considered a work of fiction... or is it? If you only can read one book this

Scott Noto, love him or hate him, you can not deny that he is a master storyteller.
While The Lion's Den may not be great literature, it is certainly a great read and wildly entertaining. I can not remember a book where an ensemble of supporting characters had been effortlessly wheeled out without confusing the reader. Now thats good writing! The book gives us a glimpse into the life of Mario Monelli. Mario rides the crest of his Wall Street success while his personal life is falling apart. The interesting thing about this novel is not really the story it tells but the way in which the story is told and the way in which it is skillfully layered. Told through the eyes of its main characters Mario and Julie, the author gives us an expose into enough material for five novels let alone one. The author's research into what drives the Zoo Crew was plentiful and its obvious his storytelling ability is flawless. If there is a problem with the novel it was that it was a bit long yet you're still sad when it ends. Go figure. At times you think you are reading a thriller, at other times its a comedy, other times it is suspenseful. But it becomes apparent that the Lions' Den is simply a love story and everything else around it is a prop. What Mario and Julie feel for each other is the catalyst in what truly changes this man and inspires the reader. Some women are sure to be offended by the harsh language and behavior of the Zoo Crew in The Lions' Den. And with dialogue like "Every woman is a whore in the hands of the right man," and "take the L out of LOVER and tell her its OVER," it is no wonder. The content is raw but not without reason. Women will soon find themselves embracing this beautiful yet high octane story. The reader needs to become immersed in this novel. One does not so much as read it but lives the lives of these characters if only for a short while. Just fasten your seatbelt and pray the air bag deploys.

Scott Noto draws together elements of drama, suspense, romance and, yes, humor to create THE LIONS' DEN. This is a stunning work. If that's not enough, he populates the narrative with what are perhaps the most riveting and unforgettable protagonists and antagonists that you will find in mainstream fiction today, Mario Monelli and Barton Mulvaney.
Noto's ability to develop and flesh characters so finely that you sometimes feel them in the room with you is extraordinary. He is a master of establishing mood and motivation through the psychological maneuverings of his characters. This work is at once atmospheric, comedic, uplifting and at times dark and disturbing--yet compelling and hard to put down. He can establish a sense of disquiet, peril, or unease with a few well turned phrases. And his ability to build suspense and an impending sense of doom that is almost palpable to the reader is amazing. There were so many elements of this story that I loved, from Mario's showdown with the Saudi Crown Prince in Las Vegas down to his climatic senate testimony. And that scene with his son in a Harlem crack den just floored me. I can certainly say that I wasn't disappointed in the complexity and the credibilty of the author's plotting, detailed storyline, and breathless pacing. But it was the quality of the writing that blew me away more than anything. The dialogue sizzles and the author serves it up spicy hot...ssssssssssssssss, and the descriptive style, imagery and line up of characters never once interrupts the reader's concentration. You can almost see the Lions' Den as he describes it, feel Mario's pain as he endures it... an emotional roller coaster ride to behold.
