Just get it.

Why are you still here, after all these years sitting on your keester and complaining, when you could be walking around with that wide smile on your face? Because you haven't read est: Playing the Game a New Way, (Erhard Seminar Training) that's why. Dig it. You want to win. You want to move on. You want to get and be real, but, well you got to answer the cell phone and your email hasn't completely downloaded and...Well...and.... Frederick got it for you and laid it out in this book. All you have to do is DECIDE if you really want it, if you really want your life to work. A friend of mine in psych care told me back in '78 when she loaned me this book: "It, like growing up and getting real, ain't for the faint of heart". As the reader, you get from this book an opportunity, a gift, really, of time to read and examine what is going on with you, right here and right now. All that is IS here and now. Every Buddhist master and sage knows that, but it takes them longer.

Yes, I did go through the EST training, in Denver, in 1979, with about 280 other people, and I did GET IT, about 6:30 in the morning driving back to Cheyenne on my way to work with the big bright full moon on my left just above the line of mountain tops along the pink and white-topped sparkle from the Rockies as the sun was coming up. EST does work. I laughed my head off all the way and wondered why I had put myself through such needless "stuff" (euphemism) all those years--decades. This book DOES WORK. Reading it is the closest I have ever come to re-experiencing some of the residual effect of the Training. Everyone I have loaned it to tell me the same thing: no big deal, it works.

I am an EST grad from the 70s. I had this book years ago and in moving ect it got away from me .I was so thrilled to find it again .yes EST was a life changer and this book is like being in THE ROOM again .I have told others to read it and it brings a wonderful experience back into my life.!

Well worth a read

Though nothing is a substitute for actually going through The Landmark Forum, Carl Frederick's book is well worth a read. For those of us who attended The Landmark Forum this book is a good summary of the key points. The use of "real world" examples in the book is very helpful and the author clearly has a passion for wanting to see everyone "win the games" they set up for themselves.

I guarantee that each time you read this book, different things will jump out at you and as time goes on, more and more of the concepts will sink in.

G.O.R.E Score Cravings!! Vol.2

I was lucky enough to meet Tony Schaab at HorrorHound in Indy this past March. Let me tell you that it was a great experience! I am very happy to have met him and also happy that I picked up both volumes of G.O.R.E Score! I was lucky enough to SCORE a copy of vol.2 with the variant cover. It's looking as if I'm going to have to pick up this copy as well (for the collection). These books are great and they are filled with excellent reviews and insight. Tony and I also discussed the days of Chas Balun and his books; well let me tell you that Tony his well on his way to being this generations horror publication guru!

If you like zombies and you like horror you need these books!!

Another great collection!

Tony has released another great zombie review book to let we zombie fans sink our teeth into. And it's awesome!

If you're a zombie fan and like Volume 1, then definitely don't miss out. Great addition to the first volume.

And if you're a Tony Schaab fan, don't miss out on his "Geekfight" that went down on May 20th on the Better Geek Than Never website, where he took on the topic "Best Zombie Attack Ever" (in a movie), proving again that Tony knows his stuff :)

Tony has released another great movie review book to allow all zombie fans sink their rotten nasty teeth into. /wink -- And it's awesome! (did you expect any less?)

If you *are* a zombie fan and like Volume 1, then definitely don't miss out. Great addition to the first volume and he has a really nice range of zombie media that he's gone to, to review for everyone. Some things you'll recognize, but somethings you won't- which might give you some ideas what to put on your "to experience" list.

Tony knows his stuff- and he continues to prove he's the King of all Zombie related paraphernalia.

His recent work in California educational reform includes supporting the Sacramento County Board of Education's authorization of five K-8 charter schools. Fortune also serves as president of the board for Pacific Charter Institute, which has a charter school in Sacramento County and another in San Joaquin County.

Education has become the civil rights issue of the 21st century. With public awareness around the issue growing daily, Dr. Fortune's book is an excellent compliment to stakeholder efforts in further spreading awareness and, more importantly, identifying real solutions for underperforming students. While Dr. Fortune is himself impressively credentialed and experienced in the world of education, it is his display of diligence and thorough research in the book that truly fortifies his words as persuasive guidance for getting done what we so desperately need: a holistic, complete approach to educating children that have already been failed by the system.

Critics of education reform will say what they will about the term "achievement gap" and how it perpetuates an inauthentic, subjective benchmark of success for struggling students--the fact of the matter is this: regardless of how you label the situation, chronically underperforming children just need to learn better than they are now. Dr. Fortune's book shows educators and parents how schools have done that in this modern era of education. I encourage anyone to purchase this book. The information it presents needs to be known in every home.

A must read for every parent

I am a former California public school teacher. I taught at a low-income school in a neighborhood that is infested with drugs, gangs, and prostitution. No one expects our students to perform, but long story short, a small middle school in the "'hood" now has an API of 964 and a National Blue Ribbon. How? Many of our parents are featured in Dr. Fortune's DVD, Bridging the Achievement Gap: What Successful Educators and Parents Do, where they share what it took for THEM to do in order for their kids to perform.

In my experience, it's high expectations that spark the fire, and follow-through that yields results. Many parents, having been failed by our public schools system themselves (on any level), are not equip with the necessary skills to help their children realize their academic goals.

Dr. Rex Fortune truly is an icon educator - a living legend with so much first-hand history of public education in California. Dr. Fortune has been an educator (in many different capacities) for longer than I've been alive!!
I appreciate his ability to recognize and understand others' diverse backgrounds and histories.

There are many people who claim to be "urban education experts", yet these people were never "urban" students themselves, nor have they been parents of "urban" students.

There is an academic achievement (or "access") gap because there is a disconnect that persists throughout the education field. We don't like to acknowledge, let alone talk about race, cultural differences, and what typically happens in different homes (for real, for real). Dr. Fortune crosses lines and shares a number of different scenarios.

In addition to ensuring the educating of his own children, Dr. Fortune has impacted 100s of 1000s of lives over the decades. Lucky for us, he decided to put the recipe on paper (and DVD!!)

Who doesn't want the best for their child? Some of us don't have all of the skills and resources necessary to provide the best. So? Make yourself better for your student by reading this book (or watching the DVD ;). The accompanying DVD is a very quick & helpful overview of the text.

The habits that you instill in your student are for LIFE, not just the next grade level.

Studies have shown that with the proper methods in place, continual practice and adequate support any student can learn and excel. Despite the statistics, minority students are excelling well above the Achievement Performance Index (API) requirement. How are they doing this is by the dedication of a collective unit: student, parent, teachers, educators, leaders and the school all with the same goals in mind to "bridge the achievement gap."

Bridging the Achievement Gap: What Successful Educators and Parents Do by Rex Fortune is a tried and tested account of the methods and processes that must be in place to show how minority students can progress. Mr. Fortune did some extensive research and interviews to display that minority students can learn and excel with back to basics, innovative and grassroots methods.

In his book he interviews numerous schools educators, leaders and teachers to get an upfront account of their success stories from paying teacher salaries above $44,000 per year and reducing class sizes to extending education and teaching student hours. These efforts have not only caused the students to exceed the statewide API but have allowed them to rank above the statewide API for several consecutive years. For those visual learners he has created a supplemental DVD "Parenting Practices: How Successful Parents Bridge The Achievement Gap" that provides similar information along with parent interviews.

This book is highly recommended.

Love it

I had listened to an interview with Godawa on Derek Gilbert's "View From The Bunker" webcast and it caught my interest. I'm about half-way through the book and can't put it down. Very well done. Good plot.

While I love the story so far, the theology is going to take some time to sort through. But, so far, I haven't found anything that contradicts scripture despite being a largely "extra-Biblical" novel. Godawa has woven scriptural principles throughout while combining Biblical, Apochryphal writings and an edgy reimagination of pre-flood Noah and the depraved world he lived in.

I would like to emphasize he paints a new picture of Noah compared to traditional views (which the Bible has not defined either, these traditional views are just tradition.) But, he does not redefine Biblical Principles of faith and righteousness and good and evil.

So far, I give it 5 stars.

Continued...After finishing the book, (I actually finished the book the day after I wrote the original review, sorry for the delay) I still love it. I would keep the 5 stars that I gave it half-way through.

It's a fast paced book that reads like a screen play. It left me wanting more, I think that's a good thing? For the past month I have been continuing research on the subjects of the novel, I appreciate the information and leads the author provided in the appendices. I love a book that brings something new to the table and this book left me with some concepts that I had to dig deeper and research. I probably will be looking into this stuff for a while.

I am looking forward to the next book in this series, I'll definitely read it.

Get Peter Jackson to Direct the Movie

Brian Godawa transforms the grandfatherly, gray-bearded Noah of Sunday School stories into a warrior chief who'd give Conan the Barbarian a good fight and won't take orders from anyone -- not even Yahweh. Working with the little the Bible actually tells us about Noah the man, Godawa fills "Noah Primeval" with details that are admittedly speculative, but within the bounds of Christian theology.

And why not? The Bible has all of the elements a gifted author needs: Angels, demons, monsters, sorcerers, mighty kings, powerful warriors, gods, demigods, love, sacrifice, heroism, betrayal, and epic battles. Godawa's skill as a scriptwriter is evident; the novel unfolds like scenes on a big screen, and there are moments you will recognize as the place you'd stand and cheer in a movie theater.

Others have favorably compared "Noah Primeval" to "The Lord of the Rings", and I would as well. Imagine Methuselah and Tubal-Cain as Legolas and Gimli, and you have the idea.

It's a fresh and exciting take on a story we think we know. And for those who want more background, Godawa has included appendices in the back third of the book that delve into the mystery of the Nephilim and recent research into the Divine Council -- a concept that will change your understanding of the Old Testament.

Highly recommended, especially for teens who may appreciate Godawa's high-energy approach to the story -- enough, hopefully, to read the scholarly research into the history behind it.

Boatloads Of Stuff Great Stories Are Made Of

I can't remember when I read a book that contained such an exciting story. It contained heroes, villains, monsters, demons, angels, adventure, suspense, thrills, war and a plot that is much more unpredictable then one would expect. The tag line is "This is not your Sunday School Noah's Ark" which is either a crack on Sunday School or a comment on how different this version really is. I think it's the latter. In this version Noah is a young man that is leader of a nomadic tribe that worships the True God (Elohim) and hides from the evil world that is controlled by fallen angels that have set themselves up as gods. Not only are the demons and demigods bad news the demons have mated with women to create the giant Nephilim and even bred animals with humans to create a superior race of soldiers. Noah and his small band are way outnumbered and outweaponed. Does this stop Noah? Read the book and find out.

As for the Biblical interpretations of Brian Godawa I'm not buying most of it (not because of Sunday School but because of my own research into the fascinating topic). He explains some things before the story starts and has given over 100 pages of theology at the end of the book to explain where he has received his viewpoints. I give him a hearty thumbs up for the explanations even though I disagree with a lot of them. Brian has also written an extensive and informative article entitled "Retelling Biblical Stories for a Modern Audience". The link on his website doesn't work but if you search the title it will come up. I suggest reading it if you question whether this book is for you (or even if you don't). In my opinion this book is more of a fantasy then reality but as any good Jewish/Christian fiction should be, God should be lifted up and evil exposed for what it really is. This book clearly does both of these.

Brian originally wrote this story as a screenplay but then decided to turn it into a book to get the interest going. To do this story as a movie correctly it would fall into the BIG budget category. When reading this book it's easy to picture it as a movie, however it would be more graphic then I would be willing to watch. It would be hard to keep the rating under NC-17 or at the R level. I didn't find the book necessarily graphic but what one can creatively work around in novel form it may not be so easy to do on the big screen.

Highly recommended.

We LOVE "When I Close My Eyes"!! It is a wonderful book for young readers! Our children ages 10yr,6yr and 2years really enjoy this book and read it just about every night!! We even bought a copy for my sons Kindergarten class so other children can enjoy it as well! The story is great, the pictures are fabulous and it so full of fun and imagination :) I hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

"When I Close My Eyes" is such a great children' book. From the cute story of Dot and her imagination to the vibrant colors that grab a child's attention. My daughter is 3 years old and just loves this book. It's the first book she grabs when it's time to read!

Too cute for words, but I will try

I got this book for a friend's little girl and I actually read it myself before I gave it to her. It was the CUTEST book. The imagination of this little girl and the colorful pictures just make you smile ear to ear. After I read it, I didn't want to give it away, but I did. My friend's daughter loved it as much as I do. It's a book that I know she will keep going back to. I think this will be one of those books that you read to your child so much that you will have it memorized and so will your little one. Even better is that now it can be personalized! Ty autographed my book for the little girl and she thought that was so awesome, but to have your own picture in a book...that is going to make it even more special, if that is possible! Definitely a keeper. I have to get myself another copy. For ME.

About the Author
Suzanne Poulton Starseed is a former professor and head of the Department of Occupational Therapy at Louisiana State University Medical Center. She received grant funds from the U.S. Department of Education and served as a consultant to the Louisiana State Department of Education. As a community organizer and activist she contributed to video scripts for public broadcasting and numerous organizations that promote a more peaceful, just, and sustainable world. She currently teaches classes on “the science of living from the heart” and conscious parenting in Richmond, Virginia.

The Ecology of Learning

This is an excellent book that points out the weaknesses in our educational system while offering ways to make the experience much more meaningful and compassionate for all types of learners. Congratulations to Ms. Starseed for caring enough about our children to channel her energy into writing this rich and informative book.

Must-Read Book for Teachers and Parents

Suzanne Starseed has pulled together a timely and groundbreaking picture of the science of how we learn and the methodology that works -- and doesn't work -- in our education system. The research that went into the writing of this book is phenomenal. Starseed covers an immense amount of territory in this short book. Her aim is to give parents and teachers the tools they need to make significant changes in our schools and the way we teach our children. Insights from her occupational therapy practice and years of teaching child development to graduate students make this book both interesting and applicable. Teachers and parents will find it a valuable resource as they seek to improve children's classroom experiences and make education more effective.

A must read for educators!

Everyone who works with children, directly or indirectly, should read this book! I have been an educator for 26 years and find that Suzanne Starseed articulates the problems in education that we as educators and students are experiencing and observing. This book is thoroughly researched and provides scientific data to support her arguments for educational reform. Through her work as an occupational therapist, Ms Starseed has gained the knowledge of how the brain functions and responds to stimuli and an understanding of the educational environment that children need in order to thrive in the ever-changing twenty-first century.

This hopeful romantic loved it!

I own all Abigail Reynold's adaptations and am a huge fan. This one definitely is a departure from Darcy, Elizabeth, Mr. Bennet and even Georgianna's characters as we have all grown to know and love. Still, I enjoyed this clever take on what could have happened if. My favorite line in the book occurs in Chapter 3 when Darcy brings Bingley to see Jane in London: " 'Miss Bennet, it was not generous of me. I wanted to give you all that is mine, but to my misfortune, I discovered that I only possessed two things which you wanted: another chance for Mr. Bingley and your sister, and a book.' ... His voice carried finality as he raised her hand to his lips and kissed it lightly, trying to store the sensation to memory." Abigail Reynold's is a master at toying with our romantic sensibilities and this courageous departure from the original novel has much to recommend.

Four stars plus two stars divided by two equals three stars from me!

I gave in to temptation and ordered all five of these Pride and Prejudice variations at one time. I have been allowing some time to elapse between reading each book because basically they are all telling the same story, just with "variations". From this point on, there is information in my review which some may consider spoilers.

This book, BY FORCE OF INSTINCT, was well written and pleasant to read. I have rated it with three stars because it just did not rise to the level of a four star book for me consistently enough. I enjoyed it but I also began to lose patience with it and wondered why the author continued to write when she had essentially solved the problem for the two main characters.

Our story begins just after Elizabeth Bennet has read the letter from Fitzwilliam Darcy explaining his feelings and misgivings about her and the true happenings between his family and Wickham. Elizabeth is mortified to know that she has misjudged Darcy so terribly and just wants to retreat into some private place to recover emotionally from what she now knows. But she will not be allowed to do that. Due to family commitments Darcy is unable to leave Rosings Park immediately as he had planned. He has to stay on for another week and he and Elizabeth are together frequently. It is an extremely trying time for both of them.

All of the Reynolds "variations" are explorations of what might have happened to these two people if just one circumstance had changed. In this book Elizabeth and Darcy are thrown together enough after "the letter" to give them a chance to view each other more realistically. I was actually fine with the book until it began to portray characters in such completely unfamiliar roles that they made me uncomfortable. Georgiana is an insecure, spoiled brat. I realize that she is a 16 year old girl but in those times she was old enough to be considered eligible for marriage so this was not a favorable aspect of her personality for me. She does something spiteful which causes a huge problem for Elizabeth and Darcy. Too much character deviation for my taste. Mr. Bennet makes a conscious effort to dislike Darcy, even after Elizabeth tries desperately to convince him of her love for Darcy and his innate goodness. I didn't understand Mr. Bennet's pigheadedness and the author didn't help me understand. Once again, too much character deviation for my taste. Elizabeth's Uncle Gardner played a pivitol role in the engagement but he was shown to be a very harsh, stern, immoveable person. Yet again, too much character deviation for my taste.

And now we come to the sexual content of the book. Never, in my wildest dreams would I imagine Elizabeth Bennet initiating a sexual encounter with Fitzwilliam Darcy but that is exactly what this book portrays her as doing. And from then until the final pages of the book it is just one time after another of the author describing these characters trying to keep their hands off each other and not always succeeding. Okay, this is not Pride and Prejudice, this is a story written by another author, b-u-t I didn't like this aspect of the book. One incident, maybe. On and on, no. They do get married I'm glad to say but that just seemed to reveal Darcy as being totally insecure. I wasn't prepared for him to need so much reassuring by Elizabeth that she loved him. And this book just contains one misunderstanding after another (indulged in equally by both characters which at least made it different from other romances).

My bottom line is this: if you enjoy reading historical romantic fiction, you will like this book. If you are a stickler for the straight and narrow Pride and Prejudice, you will not like this book. If you find yourself somewhere in between, you will enjoy parts of it and get really frustrated (and bored) by other parts of it. Three stars? Yes, it went up to a four star level sometimes and dipped down to a two star level during other portions. I did the math and came up with three stars!

A joy to read

Amidst the quantity of P&P inspired books being published there is certainly a wide variation in quality.

Not, however, where Abigail Reynolds is concerned. I have read all her Regency variations and there is noone else who comes close to her standard. She is consistently brilliant!

This is again another wonderful 'what if' tale that continues with our two favourite characters detained in each other's company at Rosings. Learning to understand each other under the eye of a refreshingly written normal (ie teenage and slightly spoilt) Georgiana and a host of other relatives, the story draws you in and once again enthralls you with Abigail's grasp on her characters and their interactions.

If you are seeking a P&P variation that is of the highest quality in every respect, then buy this one. I have read it several times, and I am sure that you will too!
