Book Puts Engineers On Path To Designing With eGaN Transistors
Enhancement-mode gallium-nitride (eGaN) MOSFETs are now transitioning from research to commercial use and, given their characteristics, are bound to be of major significance to power electronics engineers. ...This book offers a quick and informative start to engineers and technicians on a new device technology and can familiarize designers sufficiently with eGaN FETs so that they may design them into circuits with confidence.

About the Author
Alex Lidow is CEO of Efficient Power Conversion Corporation (EPC). Prior to founding EPC, Dr. Lidow was CEO of International Rectifier Corporation. A co-inventor of the HEXFET power MOSFET, Dr. Lidow holds many patents in power semiconductor technology and has authored numerous publications on related subjects. Lidow earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Caltech in 1975 and his Ph.D. from Stanford in 1977.
Johan Strydom is Vice President, Applications at EPC Corporation. He received his Ph.D. from the Rand Afrikaans University, South Africa in 2001. From 1999 to 2002 he worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the Center for Power Electronics (CPES), Virginia Tech. Dr. Strydom held various application engineering positions at International Rectifier Corporation and Linear Technology Corporation, working on DC-DC converters, motor drives, and class-D audio.

GaN Power Transistors
By Bill Collins
This book describes a major breakthrough in the design of power transistors. The authors thoroughly present the new Gallium Nitride type transistor starting with the basic physics and proceed to device characteristics, advantages relative to traditional Mosfets, detailed circuitry, reliability, mounting techniques, and commercial considerations. It is a practical Design Manual, and I recommend that it be absorbed by all involved in transistorized power design.

good application info, but less deep technically than I hoped
By wes
I was hoping for more information on the gate voltage shifting done to make the Dmode into Emode, and more on the optimization of the technology towards achieving best performance. This book is a little weak on the actual technology used in making eGAN FETs. There is a lot of application information about EPC devices. The book reads rather like an application note, which is typically free from most semiconductor vendors. Some of this book seems to be more marketing propaganda by EPC than an actual textbook or technical book about GAN transistors, but on the whole it would be very useful for designing a converter with EPC eGAN devices. There is a newer issue of this book, but it seemed to be very expensive.

Too much off the subject.
By heavymetalman
The details of explaining the physics (as it pertains to the user) and, how to design power electronics using GaN could have been explained in less than 10 pages. I first scanned at random through a few pages. In one section he starts explaining how to design power supplies, along with his own bias which is not entirely correct. ("some cores may have higher loss at higher frequencies". Huh? No; MOST materials are frequency dependent, not "may be".) There are many books, from the likes of Ridley and Basso which lead the novice to understand power supply design.
I found the reading pretty scattered and not to-the-point as I would have wanted.
